It was not just an extra service for convenience, it became a crucial method of providing necessary care. The speed of innovation connected to remote care has been exciting and has forced us all to reevaluate the way we think about healthcare and how we can continue to make it easier for patients to receive care when and where they need it. At the heart of this innovation lies the local E-Assistant, facilitating seamless communication between patients and remote experts. Not only does this approach enhance patient convenience, but it also empowers local healthcare professionals to actively engage in remote care, perfectly aligning with our commitment to patient empowerment.

Remote care, on the other hand, takes healthcare to the next level by empowering patients to conveniently monitor their health, access educational resources, and communicate with healthcare professionals from the comfort of their homes, thus minimizing unnecessary travel and associated stress. These approaches complement each other, resulting in improved and simplified patient care. In various healthcare sectors, remote care has become mainstream, with MED-EL at the forefront of embracing this technology for individuals with CIs. Through innovative solutions like the HearCare MED-EL app and the fitting software MAESTRO 10, patients can manage their hearing devices remotely and receive personalized care from anywhere. The HearCare app allows users to adjust their audio processors, save customized programs, and enable audiologists to make remote adjustments to hearing settings. Meanwhile, MAESTRO 10 enables trained professionals to fine-tune fitting maps for patients with hearing implants, eliminating the need for in-person appointments and ensuring timely adjustments for optimal hearing outcomes.

Prioritizing patient needs and fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals are crucial. In the broader healthcare industry, increasing access to technology is essential, especially in low and middle-income countries (LMICs), requiring investment in infrastructure and digital literacy programs. Integrating healthcare with smartphone apps in regions where mobile phone usage is widespread offers a vital bridge to connect with healthcare professionals, enhancing access to healthcare services. This includes facilitating tasks such as fitting audio processors, remotely assessing hearing performance, and often resulting in cost reduction. As a result, there is a more balanced distribution of power between the healthcare system and patients, empowering cochlear implant users to take charge of their health more effectively. Artificial intelligence (AI) holds promise in revolutionizing data collection and patient support. AI technologies have the potential to transform how patient data is gathered, analyzed, and utilized, leading to more personalized and effective healthcare interventions.
